Ilias Gkogkidis was born in Crete in 1999. His musical journey began at the age of six when he attended violin lessons in Athens. Later, he became a member of the Aiginio Philharmonic as a trumpet player and the Kalamaria Philharmonic Orchestra as a horn player. He has participated in numerous concerts in Greece and abroad and holds diplomas in Harmony, Counterpoint, as well as Instrumentation & Band Conducting.
Since 2016, he has been actively involved in conducting musical ensembles. In this context, he has conducted the Aiginio Philharmonic, the “Para Triicha” Music Ensemble, the Orchestra and Choir of the Estia Pieridon Mouson of Katerini, the Corfu Municipal Choir “San Giacomo,” and the Mixed Choir “Michalis Kapodistrias.” Additionally, he has participated in conducting masterclasses under the guidance of internationally renowned conductors, including Michalis Oikonomou, Athanasia Kyriakidou, Alkis Baltas, Anastasios Symeonidis, and Georg Christoph Sandmann. He is a final-year student at the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University, specializing in Music Sciences, with a thesis focusing on Intellectual Property within the Greek legal framework.
His contributions to culture have been recognized by the Hellenic Institute of Cultural Diplomacy in France (Paris) and the United States (Nashville), awarding him the title of Cultural Ambassador. In 2020, in collaboration with Mikis Theodorakis, he founded the “Mikis Theodorakis Symphony Orchestra” in Corfu, which was renamed the “Ionian Symphony Orchestra” at the end of 2024. He currently serves as the Orchestra’s Conductor, having completed more than 35 artistic productions, while also holding the position of General Secretary of the organization.
Beyond his artistic endeavors, since 2023, he has been an active member of the Rotary Club of Corfu “Ioannis Kapodistrias,” serving as President of the New Generation Committee. In 2024, he assumed the role of CEO of the capital company “EVENIA” an Scientific Organizer of the TEDxCorfu conference (2024-2025), while in early 2025, he founded the Non-Profit Organization “iGENESIS.”
